A photovoltaic power plant installed at the Parc des Expositions

Since 2012, the car park at the Bordeaux Exhibition Centre has been home to a 20-hectare photovoltaic power plant.

It's doubly practical, providing shade for car parks and generating clean energy.

Clever, isn't it?

The Bordeaux-Lac photovoltaic power station

Inaugurated in the spring of 2012 in the car park of the Parc des Expositions in Bordeaux, the solar power plant was at the time the largest of its kind in an urban environment in France.

A dual objective

We want to accelerate the energy transition and encourage the dual use of land. The shaded areas have a dual purpose: they produce clean, low-carbon electricity from a renewable energy source (the sun) and they also improve user comfort (the shaded areas provide protection from the sun in very hot weather and shelter in bad weather).

Production

The photovoltaic power plant produces around 13,000 MWh/year, equivalent to :

= the consumption for 1 year of around 3,000 households in one year

= an estimated 3,200 tonnes of CO2 each year

Maintenance and improvement

To optimise the site's production, the modules are periodically cleaned.

With a view to a technical inspection, a drone flight was carried out in 2022 to carry out an in-depth analysis of the panels using infrared thermography.

A committed plant

Our new partner for cleaning the panels, based in Gironde, has been chosen to reduce the distance between the company (based less than 50 km away) and the site.

The plant in figures

  • 20 hectares of land
  • 60,000 photovoltaic panels
  • 7,000 parking spaces
  • 27 football pitches (equivalent surface area)
  • 13,000 MWh/year

The photovoltaic plant is managed by Tenergie, an independent French renewable energy developer and producer since 2008.
